Gammel Frequently Asked Questions

First add the Gammel Widget:

1. From the Home Screen, touch and hold a widget or an empty area until the apps jiggle.
2. Tap Edit in the top left-hand corner.
3. Tap Add Widget.
4. Select the Gammel widget, choose a widget size, then tap Add Widget.
5. Tap Done.

Gammel will auto configure your widget, but to customise the settings:

1. Touch and hold a widget to open the quick actions menu.
2. Tap Edit Widget .
3. Make your changes, then tap outside the widget to exit it.

Apple provided instruction

1. Touch and hold the Lock Screen until the Customise button appears, then tap Customise.
2. Select Lock Screen.
3. Tap Add Widgets.
4. Tap or drag the widgets you want to add to the Lock Screen.
5. When you're finished, tap the close button, then tap Done.

2. Select Lock Screen.
3. Tap the Gammel widget you want to edit
4. Make your changes, then tap the close button to exit it, or swipe down from the top of the edit screen.

You can change the highlight colour on the widgets (and in the app) from within the Gammel app:

1. Open the Gammel app
2. Tap the settings cog button on the top left
3. Select Design Theme
4. Choose the colour theme you would like for light mode and dark mode

Go to Settings > Notifications and change "Notify for" to either Favourites or All. Favourites limits notifications to people, pets, and anniversaries in your favourite groups, while All covers everything you're tracking. Gammel will ask for notification permission the first time you enable this. To turn notifications off, set it back to None.

You can also set what time of day notifications arrive using the Time picker (9:00 AM by default).

All notifications are scheduled locally on your device — no data is sent anywhere.

Each notification includes the person or event name and the milestone, such as "Turning 30 today" or "5th Wedding Anniversary."

Gammel is an iOS app and requires iOS 18 or iPadOS 18.

To run it on your Apple Watch you need watchOS 11.

It can also be run on macOS 15 (Sequoia) on Apple Silicon Macs with the Designed or iPad feature.

Some app features require the latest version of the OS.

Gammel stores your data on your device and in your iCloud storage.

You will need to have enough storage space available in iCloud or the data will not sync. If you don't have enough storage this wont affect your use of Gammel on an individual device, but will mean the data will not share automatically to your other devices

Gammel is optimised for users on the latest version of iOS. If you have an older version of iOS then some new features may not have been implemented.

The core of the app will always work on older supported versions of iOS, You will always be able to track people and events, and view those in widgets.

You can't add data directly to the Gammel app on your Apple Watch, but data you add on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac will sync to Gammel on your Apple Watch via iCloud.

Syncing can take a little bit of time especially if you have a lot of photos so if the data does not appear immediately give it a bit more time and it should sync over.

While data is syncing an activity indicator will appear on the top left of the main screen of Gammel.

It's best to open the Gammel app on your Apple Watch and ensuring the data has synced before attempting to configure complications.

If you have been using Gammel and have data stored, when you install it on a new device it may take some time or more for all the data to sync from iCloud, especially if you have a lot of data and photos.

There will be an indicator that iCloud is syncing data, but during this time it may appear that Gammel is empty and contains no data, just give it some more time and you should see your data appear after the sync is complete
